I got another email from Tesla today (link to the text is at the end), talking about fires per car as a comparison metric for safety. Hey guys, if you want to harp on how the media is coming up with incorrect data, at least come up with iron clad data yourself, not half-baked arguments. So, I went to the Tesla site (link below), and the bottom of the blog said “Log in to comment”. I created an account, and logged in, only to see that there’s no way to comment. Not cool. Anyway, the following is my comment to the blog in the link: *********************************************** I don’t see how fires per car is a complete metric. In the denominator should be # cars multiplied by time. So, fires per car-years. (# fires) / ((# cars) x (# years)) And this can only be compared (meaningfully) for models that have been around long enough. Not sure if the model S will qualify for a meaningful comparison until a few years later, at least taking the average age of the car up to the average age of the rest of the automobile population. I understand that all said and done, the Tesla might still be the best. But just as the journalists are going one direction, you seem to be going the other, by jumping to conclusions and feeding us with further mis-analysis. *********************************************** teslamotors/blog/mission-tesla
