This morning, I was talking to a dear friend of mine. She is walking through some dark times in her life with her husbands illness. She was crying and made a familiar statement. Its one I have heard numerous times in my life. As I do with a lot of things, I contemplated it over the past 6 months. When she said it, it jolted me right back to where Ive been recently. In reference to her heartbreak she said, I know God doesnt give us more than we can handle, but I dont know if I can handle this. With Kevins recent job loss, I was talking to my mom one day. I was trying to figure out how to make it work. I didnt know how to keep from losing our house, pay bills, provide food, etc. as I talked to my mom, she said, this is more than you can handle and if you dont get control of it, you are going to have a nervous breakdown. It was then that it dawned on me that it WAS more than I could handle. If I could do it on my own, I wouldnt need others and I wouldnt need God. I think God sometimes gives us things in our life that we, as humans, cannot deal with alone. It may be the death of a child, the loss of a spouse through death or divorce, illness, the loss of a job, and the list goes on. We are breakable. We hurt deeply, we mourn, we get scared, and we all have a point where we have reached the end of our rope. I like to picture that at the end of that rope, I find a loving God has his arms open saying, Let go of the rope. Youve done all you can do. Ive got this. When you let go of the rope, you find a peace in your heart that passes anything you dreamed and you find that other humans ( your friends and family) will be at the end of the rope, too. To each of you who ran to us during our storm, thank you for all you did. You were our lighthouse that kept us pressing on. We came through it with the desire to turn around and shine that light to others who are in a storm too. Be a lighthouse today. Someone is in a storm and has had all they can handle. Grab the end of the rope. Youll be glad you did!
