I got the news three days late, but I am very saddened this morning to hear of the death of Mick Farren on July 27 at age 69. He was a Renaissance man of rock and roll whose proto-punk/psychedelic/underground rock band the Deviants – as well as another band he co-founded when the original Deviants combusted, the Pink Fairies – has produced some of my very favorite music for more than 40 years. He was also a journalist, music historian, and science fiction author. Way too early this morning, I was writing an item about what I believe is their last album, Dr. Crow, in the current Under-Appreciated Rock Band post. He was also co-author of The Bomp Book, about Bomp! Records founder Greg Shaw. What a great talent; he will be missed for real. theguardian/music/2013/jul/29/mick-farren
