I got the number 9 from Susan Martin Robbins ( things you dont know about me....) !. In April 1983 The Queen (of England) came to Vancouver BC to open a new wing of the hospital. I was being prepped for exploratory surgery and in my drug induced state I decided that my doctor looked like Jim Croche and I had to sing time in a bottle to him - very loudly. Unknown to me they were bringing the Queen past my room and so the nurse put her hand over my mouth to keep me quiet. I bit her hand and carried on singing totally oblivious. The Entourage stopped and were told what was happening and the Queen said One thinks she has rather a nice voice So I can claim that I have sang before royalty (although I dont remember it). 2. Another hospital story I had my tonsils removed when I was 9. A big TV show at the time was Dr. Kildare with Richard Chamberlain. The nurses told me that Dr. Kildare was going to be performing my surgery. I never actually saw him - he popped in to see me when I was asleep and was waiting for me in surgery. It wasnt until I went to Grammmer School age 11 and told someone that he was my Doctor when she laughed and said you realize that Richard Chamerlain is an actor. Up until that very moment I had really really believed it... 3. I always hated having a birthday in summer. During the year at school everyone would get cards and presents and their name was read out in assembly - because mine was in the summer holidays (July 25th) I felt cheated also half the friends I wanted to have at my birthday party were on holidays with their families. 4. Keeping with the birthday Theme I turned 21 in Liverpool working as the Manager of the Virgin Record Store in the St Johns Precinct. A shopping center with a hotel on top and a club on top of that... Turning 21 is a HUGE deal and all the record companies threw a party - for me but also to help raise funds for a woman called Kay Kelly. She had cancer which had not been diagnosed because Liverpool did not have the equipment - the closest was in London. So she was raising money to get a scanner for the hospital. All the local famous people came to support, Kevin Keegan (football) Gerry and the Pacemakerks, Freddy and the dreamers and Paul and Linda McCartney. We all had rooms in the hotel with bathtubs full of ice and champagne and I even remember someone from the band Whitesnake throwing a painting out of the window (because that is what rock stars did in those days). It was a crazy hazy fantastic way to turn 21...... if a Little surreal.. 5. The reason I was in hospital in Vancouver in 1983 is because I had an IUD (Copper T) that had tried to expel itself and it perforated and got embedded in my uterus & caused a very serious infection and they needed to remove it surgically. Years later Whilst living at Esalen in Big Sur I met and married a wonderful man (Tim Ames) the original plan was to be married a couple of years and then start trying for children - when push came to shove - he decided he didnt want children so I left the marriage and moved to Santa Cruz as it was still a priority and being in my late 30s my bilogical clock was ticking. When I turned 40 I had a wonderful blessing way and decided that I was going to become a single mother using artificial insemination. I had a sperm doner picked out (with Icelandic heritage). Because I had had cervical cancer twice and the problems in my 20s they did something called a hiss ping (Hysterosalpingogram) which showed that my tubes were so scarred and blocked and that there was too much damage. I go through different layers of grief about the lineage of my family ending with me. I come from a long line of proud, musicial ,stubborn and kind women. I have recently being doing some geneology and looking back at my ancestors is healing some of that grief. 6. When I turned 30 I returned to England and did the 1st year of the teacher training to become a Waldorf teacher planning eventually to teach kindergarten. I went to the wonderful Emerson College in East Grinstead. While I was there the founder Francis Edmunds passed away and his son came to the school to teach a special workshop to the First Years in Speech and Drama. From that I auditioned for Drama Schools in London and got accepted into The Actors Institue At the end of the training I formed a small theatre company with Math Jones called the Spiral Candle Theatre Company and we put on several successful productions including The Taking of Choice written by Math Sams (same person). It was based on Shakespeares The Rape of Lucrece and was a powerful statement - I had done some outreach with various womens centers & rape recovery centers in confidence sharing my own history. My story was sold (not by me) and without my knowledge or permission with pictures taken from the production my biggest secret that even my family did not know the details about was in one of the major Sunday British Papers.... I spent one whole sunday riding the tube - Picking up copies of the offending paper and eventually burning the. It was a two week if that notoriety but I relieved lifetimes in that fortnight. 7. I have achieved so many things on my initial bucket list made when I was 40 that I have made a NEW bucket list. I will be jumping out of a plane with Richi Personeni & Janette Murray & Leah Barrett & maybe even Shay Stender if we can co-ordinate it... Providing Richi does not bail I have said that I will get a tattoo I have decided what (a bluebell) I just have not decided where.... Travel Top of my list ICELAND -DENMARK- SWEDEN- FINLAND- NORWAY (preferably a scandinavian performance tour - or maybe a cruise ship). IRELAND (Southern - watch out Bríd ORaghaillaigh) ITALY Chinque Terra again, Maybe even Andrea Bocelli in Lajetico again. 8. I need help decluttering my life. I have too much stuff. (borderline hoarding) Thousands of CDs and Books, enough beads and charms & buttons & jewelry fixings to open my own store Beautiful cobalt blue glass & Bluebell china art work - instruments - sheet music - songbooks Yarn, quilting suppplies, electronics and cameras and computers boxes of memories - birthday card and letters photos and drawnings and ticket stubs from performances even snippets of my nieces hair It needs organizing and I need to simplify. so I can enjoy what I have I need a business partner to help me sell online or in stores some of my abundant collateral... I also seldom do my dishes...... Next place to live has a huge jaccuzzi bathtub and a dishwasher. 9. What I want most in my life and I have for as long as I can remember is NOT a romantic partner. Although I admit to memorable ones along my life. What I Really Really want most of all is someone I can make music with. What I desire transcends more than any marriage or partnership. I long for someone to accompany me while I sing - Someone who can play piano or guitar or ukulele or cello and hopefully sings harmonies and can take a lead while I harmonize. Who I can co-write with - wants to tour a little and stay home a little - dogs OK grandkids and older children fine - I want someone who likes the kind of music I sing and can feel the mood - and enhance - leave space and be in the moment - I do have a day job with slightly more flexibility than most. This is my time I have 2 cd released a 3rd recorded that needs a little TLC - a fourth ready to be born and a heart that grows and expands with every song sung.... OK there are 9 things about me. I did not know what I was going to writie about at the start. If you comment let meknow if you wouldlike a number... I know quite a few people have already done this. If any of you relate let me know... Some of these things took a little courage to share - I will let you decide which.....
