I got this far on grit alone. Im not the smartest fellow. Im not the most well spoken fellow. Im never going to be a class valedictorian or mistaken for mister congeniality. But, dammit, I had people back home tell me, Johnny, grad schools too competitive for you or Johnny, youre not smart enough to be a Master. I not only completed all of my graduate level coursework but excelled beyond the GPA necessary to keep me enrolled. I have a 3.33333 and am working on my graduate thesis right now which is the mentally toughest thing I have ever done in my life. While this thesis has me bloodied and beaten, I remain unbowed. I am unconquerable. I am an Evans, dammit. We dont know the meaning of the word quit. We fight till we cant fight anymore. We have three redeeming qualities: fine heads of hair, grit, and determination. One of the highest sets of admission standards at LSU? May as well try. I got in. I must be here for a reason. I will keep fighting and pushing and studying and will work this heap of tissue I call my brain until it can retain no more information. I got here on grit alone and will succeed via my classic Evans grit. Genetically, we have a leg up. We are too stupid to know when to quit. Bring it.
