I grew up with tight fisted parents. The idea of an allowance was absurd to them. If I wanted anything in life I had to work for it. I picked peas, fruit and shoveled shit starting around 12 years old. That set the stage for a life of mind numbing spirit killing hard labor. There were times when it got easier and times even now when it gets really hard. One thing I can say about it, I have a pretty clear idea of who I am and what I value.
