I had THE most amazing experience today! I called Sturdy hospital asking about their need for back packs for the homeless and was told to bring them over. I got there and was told they couldnt take them, to call back Monday. I called Morton Hospital and Brockton Hospital (where I had donated 30+ 2 weeks ago) and was told to call Monday. I called Brockton Police as they have an officer who works with the homeless, and was told to bring them over and they would be sure she got them. Waited 1/2 hr at the police station to be told they couldnt take them, to call Monday. They told me how to get to Main Spring Shelter. I drove towards it, couldnt find it and got scared cuz I was in a bad place and it was dark. I was shaking like a leaf. I could see people huddling in doorways and walking the streets. I called and was told they dont take donations, but I could bring them to a distribution center on Monday. I was so frustrated and mad. I pulled over where I saw a few guys sitting on a bench. I asked if they knew any homeless that needed help and they said they themselves were homeless. I said I had things for them and did they know anyone else. One of them told me to pull into a little park area and the other ran across the street. I pulled into the park which was right near the street, faced my car out as to not get trapped and got out and opened my trunk. In a matter of 10 seconds, there were homeless coming from all directions, all men, and I was able to personally give them all a back pack. They were so, so grateful that it made my cry. At first they just thought they were back packs. One guy said Theres stuff in them? I told them they were filled with all brand new winter clothing, emergency blankets, toiletries, food etc. and they all said God Bless me and so many thank yous. One elderly man promised to get backpacks to the women. They all looked so broken. I drove away still shaking and bawling my head off. I would do this every day if I could!
