I had a colourful conversation about GMOs with an Ivy League graduate owner of an agri business. He seemed to wax favourably towards GMOs. A friend of a friend, he initiated the conversation. I led with Look, I only know farmers, people who grow organic food, and I go to anti-gmo protests. He started with I have debated Vandana Shiva and this isnt going to end well. After a long back and forth I asked him about eventual resistance in parasites and the overall increase in pesticide use. He drew a parallel to antibiotic resistance management. But, I asked Do you think realistically these controls are in place for us to be able to consider GMO foodcrops? No.
