I had a morning CPEP shift today, and I kind of felt like I spent - TopicsExpress

I had a morning CPEP shift today, and I kind of felt like I spent my whole shift trying to get up to speed on things in there, and since we only have one CPEP shift, I wont really get to put it to use again. So heres what I can pass on to anyone who hasnt been there yet. 1. I spent half the morning decoding acronyms. Heres what I got: -SI = suicidal ideation -EOU = a patient on a 72 hr hold. Theyre are only 6 of these on the unit at any given time -SX = symptom...maybe this is common knowledge but I didnt know it -MJ = marijuana...definitely should have been obvious but I didnt pick up on it for a while... -CMIO = no idea what it stands for but its administration -HP = hospital police. Not health proxy, which is what I initially thought TNR = treat and release. Refers to short term patients not admitted -9:13 = voluntary patient (Youll here He/She is a 9:13) -9:39 = involuntary patient -OB = observation -FOS = full of shit. Im not kidding. 2. I found that in the fish bowl nurses keep to one side and doctors the other side. The doctors side tends to be more crowded. I think I was getting in their way because they sent me to observe the case worker who basically just types reports/discharge papers. To get the most of a CPEP shift I found that if I stood against the wall on the nurses side of the fish bowl out of the way, no one said anything to me and I could observe. 3. A social worker noticed me sitting with the case worker doing nothing and offered to print articles on CPEP for me to read. She got busy and never had the chance to print anything from her google search. Theres a lot out there so if you come prepared with something to read during down time/ when it isnt safe to shadow, that can help you keep occupied and demonstrate to staff that you are interested in whats going on in there (I dont think they were impressed with my ability to stare at the wall for an hour...) Maybe run this by coordinators first though? Thats all I got, see you all at the Tuesday meeting tomorrow!
