I had a resident ask me today, why do we as firefighters ask the community for money to replace our fire coats, pants and boots, helmet and gloves,if we dont wear them on a fire call? My answer was....we as a department have procedures and guidelines to adhere to. And some calls we are allowed to respond with our..pants, boots, helmet and gloves, but have our coat with us...such as grass and brush fires, for our dept. That rule applies. And for other calls we have other procedures. The Officer in Charge of the scene is to oversee that everyone on that scene is in the proper gear. She thanked me for my time, I thanked her for her support. And directed her to my Chief!
