I had a very thought provoking conversation with a friend yesterday night. He pointed out that the 1,000 killed in Gujarat, while unfortunate, is in the larger scheme of things not so remarkable. There are 4,030 deaths due to heart disease EVERY day, 3,072 due to lung disease, 1,948 due to diarrheal infections, etc. In fact there are 15,000 deaths due to potentially preventable diseases. This is what we should be focusing on. We should be electing a government that has the best chance of eradicating all these problems rather than getting stuck on the past. What he felt was that given AAP is a new political party and Congress has not proven to be effective, Modi and BJP should be given a chance to resolve these issues. And I have to say, after hearing his argument I was convinced.
