I had been planning on posting something during the night of the 3rd or even the 4th due to the significant fire activity that had been occurring, but unfortunately events decided otherwise. Instead I spent most of my time on the 3rd with my own fire brigade as we battled a blaze close to our town, with not just our supporting brigades but all different emergency services who took part and showed what close cooperation can achieve. To use an old term, we won the battle, but the war is not over. Fires are still continuing throughout Victoria, and South Australia has seen major fire activity over the past weekend due to the conditions involved. There will be many more sleepless nights for all emergency personnel as they continue to fight the fires that threaten houses and lives, and we wish them all the best as they continue to attempt to reign the blaze in.
