I had breakfast with LJ and her hubby this morning before the Heart of Dixie meeting, and something she said reminded me of something that happened to me in December, on the way home after the annual Christmas party. I always spend the night before at LJs house, because of the Huntsville marathon taking place on the morning of the Christmas party. If I wasnt already past downtown, I wouldnt be getting there. Anyway, we had the party and our great Dirty Santa game, and I headed home. Every year, I pass through a small town thats getting ready for its Christmas parade, so Im accustomed to seeing the wagons and fire trucks, cheerleaders and horses, etc. No big deal. Theyre on the side of the road, getting ready. This time, the traffic seemed weird and kind of confused, I was tired and focused on getting home, so the slow traffic was a bit annoying. Then I got a strange feeling and looked around. I texted LJ, because like I said, the traffic was crawling, and texting wasnt exactly unsafe. I said, I think Im in a Christmas parade. I dont remember what she texted back, because a minute later I looked to the side and my hair stood on end at what I saw. I texted LJ again and said, I just passed Santa Claus. This cant be good. I dont know if there are any laws agains parade crashing and Santa Claus passing, but I was positive I didnt want to explain that while I was posting bail. I broke ranks in the parade and turned into a side street, raced at the top possible speed to get ahead of the parade, and broke back out onto the main highway ahead of them. Then I hightailed it to the next county, hoping Id be safe and no one had gotten my tag number. I wish I hadnt panicked, and had taken the time to enjoy myself. Ive never been in a parade before. -- Linda H.
