I had forgotten all about this ...a dear friend and Lady reminded me of it...and so....let sail again, on the bounty of Hope! Written after one of the times I was SCAMMED and lost my business, Bank Accounts, Van (yes, again!)and a Mayors race (nevermind!) anyway, I built back...until recently and it fell out again...this time I lost a marriage so, the main point is WE BUILD BACK! We get through it...somehow...we just do! harryoutdoors Pirate Trap Harry P. Davis 06-29-05 Desperation is not a compass point despair never gains permission to board To the bilge with them all Lock the galley and sink the barge Yes, they come aside and try their volleys masts may splinter above my decks The stern and transome ripped down to watermark My boat appears most times a mere moment from the locker. The crew wails with weeping screams “Captain, Turn about...’tis certain death ahead” “all sides are filled with pirates!” “Give up you madman...give us the helm” “Nay!” smiles the skipper as he digs a musket ball from his hip Slaps the lead bullet in his mouth and whispers to himself just loud enough for his mates to hear. “hmmm...tastes like Nigerian workmanship ...they won’t sink ‘er then grins and climbs upon the yardarm and dances a little shuffle the pirates laugh and pour sour grog down their dirty throats Mutiny gathers down below...true sailors now sharpen iron “Come down you befouled fool! loosen your footing and raise the flag of cowardness “Nay!” smiles the skipper as he shaves upon the yardarm mirror mocking yellowness of his eyes “My hope is in the heavens lads...My Captain shall send angel boats with fire ablaze and cannon true” Then draws his whistle as he stands ... chest expanded as a musket target...sheer suicide? “Take him out with pistol shot!” shouts the cook “run him through with harpoon shaft! ‘afore he hurts himself!” look how he grins with moronic smile and now he gazes into polished glass. kill the fool and save his honor ...before now we are pirate treasure Alas the skipper flies upon the lightning white ropes and swings upon the smoky wind to man his helm “BEAT QUARTERS!” Shouts our Captain...MAN YOUR POS TS and STAY YOUR FOOT!” “Cannon fire off the port Sir” Pilot hails from aft “HOLD THE LINE!” maddened skipper answers singing a verse he wrote upon the looking glass. Crewmen roll their eyes amazed and sigh...”poetry! ...we are surely kilt!” They wait for volley to raze the hull and take the starboard out! But wait! Horizen catches fire with dragon’s breath as schooners race upon the pirate boats WE”RE SAVED DEAR CAPTAIN! THE ROYAL BOATS COME NOW! THE PRINCESS OF THE HARBOR SENDS HER WARSHIPS SAVING US! Skipper groans, “now dammit! May I PLEASE have my mirror now? I must razor my chin for my lady orders shaven face of her knights and captains we! You are my crew and shall receive ribbons of a knighthood all For only brave and gallant sirs ...would stand off foe against such overwhelming odds. “Aye, our hero Captain...we knew it all along! We never doubted you nay not a moment “Captain oh our captain” shall dress whites be appropriate for such a crew and fellow?” “Nay!” said the smiling skipper as befitting your sour stations...ye shall dress out in yellow!” For if you stood on yard side by side with me ...never pirates countless would shiver your spineless backs. For aloft in the heavens ...even mirrors face I saw Our Princess flags upon the sky blotting earth and water cloud...as eagles on a salmon run appearances can fill with fear...lower decks distort...but our hope is in the heavens and our Captain never tarries...only tests the sails and trims the main. Now go my yellow lads it will be fine...they will think you dress in gold for brave Princess ships I will never crew again with you nor you with me for now I take my nap...never question me again ‘bout this day...and I will never tell of just one man tripping the Royal Pirate Trap!”
