I had jury duty today so I spent all morning at the court house waiting to see if I would be called to serve on a jury. They didnt pick me. While we were waiting the judge came in and talked to us about jury service and the Declaration of Independence. I hadnt really thought about it much before but one of the things that caused the American revolution was the denial by England to the right of trial by jury in the colonies. He said it was not always convenient or easy to serve as a juror but in doing so we were fulfilling a dream of the founders of the U.S. who put their necks on the chopping block, so to speak, to make sure we had this right. Doing our civic duty is a good way to serve and to pay back to the country that has provided unparalleled freedom to so many people. Its all about service my friends. Serve and the universe pays you back in kind.
