I had just been talking about how we normally dont get intentionally negative comments about the number of kids we have...and then it happened. I was in Aldi with Caylie and Teagan. Caylie was being silly and energetic but not bad. A man commented about how just watching her made him tired. I told him she makes me tired all the time. He said, they say youre not really a parent until you have 2. I said, well Ive passed that test. I have 4. Immediately his face changed to disgust as he said, Im so sorry. Im sooooo sorry. He wasnt joking or trying to be silly or sympathetic to my stress level or responsibility. With tears in my eyes and no clue what to say I muttered the words, dont be sorry. He realized his comment was not well received and tried to recover, but the damage was done and to avoid saying something I shouldnt I just walked away. It broke my heart that someone would see what I consider my greatest blessings as a mistake, a burden, or something that needs apologizing for. Is four kids really so terrible in the eyes of those around us?
