I had much of this conversation with my son. The night he was stopped by the police in a routine check, the officer later told me it was his demeanor that made the officer decide he would tear up the ticket if I came to court. My son did those things the article said, remained respectful, no aggression, no challenging, or testosterone bursts. Basically stand there and take it. I went to court with him and the officer applauded me for having raised such a fine young man, and told me most kids his age, when stopped in either a routine check or for a driving infraction or just cause, get out of the car argumentative and aggressive. I made sure my son understood "Now is not the time to show how manly you think you are when confronted by someone licensed to carry a gun an kill." We can bring charges for mistreatment if necessary, if you live to tell me about them.
