I had seen a elderly man digging in the trash for cans, a lot of people were giving him a dirty look and one woman even pushed past him to dump her trash.. somthing just screamed at me to help him... so I walked towards him and started talking to him, he was a u.s. military veteran, fought FOR OUR COUNTRY and went into the military at the age of 17. he lost his wife to another man, his child to a car accident, and his home to foreclosure.. he told his life story to me in a matter of minutes not trying to explain every detail and I could see the pain in his eyes. I told him I had a little money he could have and he didnt want to take it. but i told him: It takes a strong man to do what you have done, a brave man to keep on moving forward even when life seemed hopeless, and an even braver man to accept the help of others. i knew it may not make a huge difference but I made him take ten dollars, and then told him I had a very large bag of cans in the apartment if he wanted them, he took a smaller bag and said itd be easier to carry. he looked so tired..and was so skinny..my heart hurt for this stranger. I convinced him to sit on the bench outside and told him to wait there. I gave him some clothes, and made him a PB&J and gave him some milk. for something SO SIMPLE he had the biggest smile on his face and was soon sincerely greatful. it made me feel good to help this man.. he proceeded to tell me a bit more about himself, he traveled all over the world, he lost his eye back in the war ( I didnt even notice is glass I tell he pointed it out) he was nicknamed speedy because he ran really fast. (ect) I guess it just goes to show you, DONT JUDGE ANYONE BASED UPON THERE APPEARANCE.. you havent lived there life, you dont know there story, you havent walked in their footsteps.
