I had someone ask me what poetry is. As an artist, I believe that it is what you, as the artist put into it. If you are a poet/spoken word artist that is always speaking on being hated on, not being paid, and not being properly recognized...I suggest you look at your work ethic. If you lie on other poets, use female poets reputations to your advantage by saying you were in a relationship with them, or find yourself with lines from other poets and they have not been loaned to you...you are not being hated on. You are being despised for the leech of the art that you are and completely undeserving of the pen. I know so many poets who survive off of doing what they love and doing it to where people of standard and stature recognize their hard work and they reap the rewards. I know people who do it part time and use it to educate and uplift our youth and they find satisfaction in that aspect as well. The whole hating aspect of it is played out and to the left and used as an excuse of inactivity for mofos who shouldnt be using poetry to further their insecurities anyway. There is a process and struggle when it comes to doing that which you love, but know that no matter what you do, the universe will always reward you with the output you give to it.
