I had the opportunity to visit the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary in June 2014 and was privileged to observe over 60 bears close up for hours without spooking them (or me). At one point, our small group of six (under the watchful eye of an Alaska Department of Fish and Game guide) was ring by eleven bears (those were the ones we could see) browsing, fishing, sleeping, sunning and just chilling. It was wondrous. Here are a few snaps from that trip.
