I had the pleasure of meeting Malawians in the diaspora based in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in United States of America. My message to them was that they should always remember to invest and serve in their countries. I reminded them that no matter how long they stay abroad, time must come that they must do something for their country. I also took the opportunity to brief them of the challenges that lie ahead of our country Malawi. We currently face an uphill task in terms of budgetary support since donors pulled out their support due to financial mismanagement previously. However, I also reported to them how we are winning back the donor confidence and measures we have undertaken and continue to undertake in order to win back donor support for our development agenda. The other challenge that I briefed them on is that there is a skills gap that we must fill if we are to create jobs for our young generation who are jobless. I shared with them my vision of constructing Community Colleges which will be offering a number of skills studies and give associate degrees to the students at the end of their studies. Further more I told them of the challenge that is there to include everyone the socio-economic structure. At this point I shared the vision I have to develop Malawi and create a model class through several intervention innovations. I reported to them that we face a challenge of proper housing and hygienic water. As a matter of intervention, my government will roll out the cement and malata subsidy very soon.
