I had this Chocolate lab in my life. He lived ten years and I cherished him. He and I had a deep connection. He would know when I was coming home, early or late. The kids would say that about ten minutes before I arrived he would make his way to the front door and wait. I think they learned from this and would scamper to behave just before I got home. Eventually, he got sick and old, as is the way of all of us. When my ex left me for another woman, I KNOW (deep deep down and now more than ever I KNOW) he held on and kept me company during that first year. When things turned to the good, and his old soul knew I would be ok, my guardian left this world and left me to walk alone. My heart couldnt take the thought of another dog in my life, so I memorialized him and walked on. However.... last January I began to dream of him. I felt him in the night. Heard him. And shortly after, began to urgently dream of puppies. I would wake and tell myself never again but the nagging feeling persisted. I half heartedly sought out other chocolate labs. I found nothing in four states. I did discover one breeder. She had ONE male chocolate lab. But he was spoken for. So, my brave heart kept looking and decided that I could wait for another litter in a half a year or so. When I found another place to look, I called the initial breeder to ask her what she thought of the kennel I was researching, she shouted and said Hey! I was looking for your number! The family who wanted the pup never came for him. Come get your dog. It may sound incredibly strange to you when I say that I cried. Jameson was the only chocolate lab anywhere... and I knew that he was MINE. Hes a bright soul. Happy and vibrant. They say that a dog reflects its owner... and I vow to be as happy, loving and giving as this little beast is. They say things happen for a reason. Perhaps the plan is bigger than we think and even the little beasts in our lives are brought around for a purpose too.
