I had this conversation with a local Camera Hire place that I wont mention the name of because I dont want to name drop or promote, though I have no issues with them. Anyway... I was hiring a lens and asked if it came with a UV filter. He then proceeded to give me a speech about how most modern lenses came with a UV protecting so the filter was superfluous. I then said I understand that, however the reason I use UV filters on all my lenses is that it is easier to clean $30 worth of filter than it is to clean a couple of thousand dollars worth of Lens. What is everyone elses opinion, am I being overly cautious?
