I had to take a gentleman to a doctors appointment the other day. My dispatcher emailed me his name, address, and destination the night before so he knew to expect me and I knew where and when to take him. I pulled up in his driveway the and watched as he walked down the front steps and the 20 or 30 feet of sidewalk to the car and climbed in. We said hello and I backed out to the main road. We had 40 miles ahead of us and he seemed content to hum along to Christmas music on the radio. Almost an hour later, I arrive at the address my dispatcher gave me. It was a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. I pulled in, nonetheless, and turned to my passenger. Does any of this look familiar to you?, I asked. His reply caused the biggest belly laugh Ive had in quite a while. He turned to me, inquisitively, and said, How the hell should I know? Im blind. The first time my dispatcher gives the wrong info happens to be the same time Im driving a blind man.
