I had to unfriend someone recently with whom I have had many, - TopicsExpress

I had to unfriend someone recently with whom I have had many, seemingly, sane discussions regarding politics, religion and other taboo topics for humans who wish to remain friends. What broke it off was her insistence that our government was smarter than our stupid fellow Americans when it comes to spreading of deadly diseases. Namely, ebola. When someone continually begins their comment with You do know, it just tells me that they consider me a buffoon hardly worth their notice. So, I did her a favor. She can now go to her third Obama victory party, secure in her belief that she has shut down another goofy conservative. To me, an epidemic doesnt give a crap about your politics. It will kill you whether your state is red or blue. Pundits are even taking sides over this question. Juan Williams blames the GOP for the ebola hysteria. He says that they just want to make Obama look bad. My former friend is of the same mindset. Defend the Democrat president at all costs. Even the cost of an epidemic. Maybe it will only kill Republicans. That would be a laugh, wouldnt it? I try to take the politics out of such discussions. Because when you stand between the politically powerful and the politically suspicious, you become cannon fodder. I have to wonder how much longer it will be before our currency bears the phrase, In Government We Trust. The CDC has become the Baghdad Bob of this crisis. Nothing to see here! More people die of heart attacks than ebola. Well, thats fine. But, I didnt get ebola from eating too much red meat. It wasnt my choice. Somebody came into my country through lax security screenings and gave it to me either for the express reason to kill me or because the US government has led them to believe that we can cure them from that disease. And now, the politically correct in the media, whose job it is to cover for the present administration when they mess up on such a grand scale, are telling us that it is our responsibility to care for these poor people because the country they come from, Liberia, was founded due to American slavery. Well, its a separate nation with its own laws. Our responsibility should probably be to SEND aid and not transport their viruses to our back yards. Dont act like you are immune from this just because it hasnt killed anyone you happen to know. The one word the naysayers are most fearful of is the word YET. It hasnt killed my friends YET. I havent contracted it YET. It isnt airborne YET. The CDC and the federal government are not all powerful gods. They are people collecting paychecks. The best and most responsible thing you can do when your leaders are floundering about is to research these things for yourself. Dont believe anything anyone says about a threat to your personal health and well being until you KNOW it to be true yourself. Not even me.
