I had to wait until today to post images from Friday’s research, - TopicsExpress

I had to wait until today to post images from Friday’s research, after clearing it with the curator at The National Anthropological Archives (NAA). The NAA’s policy does not allow the posting of images on social media without permission, to limit the inappropriate usage of this information (think T-shirts or weird websites.) I’m glad my request was approved because Friday was a very intense day. I stumbled upon a photo collection per the suggestion of one of the many amazing people here at the Smithsonian, a woman doing contract labor for the Smithsonian regarding the photo archives. She suggested I examine the Prince Roland Bonaparte (nephew to Napoleon) portfolio. Law forbade Prince Bonaparte to go into the military as he desired so he instead turned to anthropology, specifically photographing diverse culture groups. This “Peaux-Rouges” collection features Omaha Indians. There was another woman in the NAA research room and she came over to speak with me about this portfolio; she explained that Bonaparte photographed this group of Indians when they came to type of European world’s fair. These beautiful photographs were exquisitely executed; I could not see enough of them.
