I happen to do a lot of free shows for organizations I choose to volunteer for, but I get asked to do free shows constantly. I once got contacted by a charity whos CEO makes 1.2 million dollars a year. They were completely nasty to me because I refused to cover their event for free. I asked if their CEO would be at the event. They said yes of course, hell be there for one hour. I said, since your CEO is getting paid about 3,300$ in salary from your charitable organization for one hours work that day,then maybe he could donate my 300$ performance fee and still walk with 3,000$ for himself that day? He gets 3,000$ for his hour at the event, I get 300$ (A discounted rate, charity and all) and everyone should be happy then right? They hung up on me. Performers, if you do free shows, do them for worthwhile organizations YOU choose. Everyone else? Put them in their place. Youll be glad you did! - Cambian : The Renegade Magician
