I hate Star Trek. More specifically, I hate the lack of continuity of the Star Trek universe. With each television series, all that is constantly reaffirmed is adherence to the “Prime Directive.” Yet, episode after episode, human values are placed over other, and in some cases older more established alien values and cultures. Case in point, DS9 “Captive Pursuit.” How in the world can an experienced Starfleet officer; one who must endure four years of Starfleet Academy whose primary mission is to seek out and understand new civilizations; voluntarily violate the Prime Directive after first contact with two, previously unknown species? In episodes of Enterprise, TNG, VOY, and DS9, it seems that nothing trump human values. We don’t like what an alien culture has been doing for their last several centuries, we now want to impose how wrong they are. Regardless if these other cultures have achieved intergalactic travel and have very well established societies. In the Star Trek universe, humans rule. If all of this was reality, I don’t think any of this would be the case as we would get our feeble, new-to-the-warp game butts kicked. Not only that, we humans would quickly become the most hated intergalactic species in the Alpha quadrant—and in the Delta quadrant (a Janeway like personality would see to that)—for constantly imposing our cultural values as superior to all others.
