I hate it when Dougie gets sudden fevers. The fear of Kawasaki - TopicsExpress

I hate it when Dougie gets sudden fevers. The fear of Kawasaki disease recurring still hasnt gone away. Paranoid? Maybe. But would always rather be safe than sorry. Parents of small children, especially those of preschool age and younger, please note: As the Spring season comes over us, there is typically an outbreak of Kawasaki cases. Theories abound as to why, but still no real explanation. PLEASE educate yourselves, know the symptoms, never discard a fever that lasts beyond 5 days. Especially when there are swollen lymph nodes on neck, rashes on the body, red tongue, and more notably the signature bloodshot eyes (I called it the demon/vampire blood red eyes). Kawasaki Disease is the #1 cause of heart disease in children. There is a small window of time to get the diagnosis and proper treatment before the child can develop heart aneurysms that can lead to heart attack and death. Please KNOW what to look out for and act promptly. To date, there still no official way to diagnose this disease through lab work alone. It is a diagnosis reached through meeting a criteria for a certain set of symptoms, combined with some characteristics in the blood (from blood tests). Research continues to try to develop a diagnostic test for it. PLEASE spread the word. Thank you!
