I hate the fact that so many Palestinian civilians are being killed, and often wonder what the Israelis could do to better protect them. Who, really, is a fan of war, anyway? (Perhaps arms manufacturers?) But Hamas started the hot war by sending rockets into non-military areas of Israel, so they had to respond in defense of their people. Their Iron Dome anti-missile defensive system is the only reason there have not been significant numbers of Israeli deaths. Israel sends in warning leaflets or a rooftop tap of low explosives to give people up to ten minutes to flee the target, but often Hamas convinces or even makes civilians stay. A school has been hit, and theres finger pointing over who did it. Hamas rockets have been found in at least 3 UN schools. At one of them the UN personnel gave the rockets into the custody of Palestinian authorities who were Hamas, and then later wondered where the rockets went! Over 36 tunnels have been found, leading from civilian areas of Gaza into civilian areas of Israel. The tunnels are concrete reinforced (Notice Hamas used the now cut-off import of concrete for these tunnels rather than bomb shelters of schools), many tunnels with small cabins where kidnap victims could be held for ransom. Armed Hamas terrorists have emerged from tunnels to try kill and/or capture Israelis. They came out armed and carrying handcuffs, zip ties, and hypodermic needles loaded with sedatives. So Israel has to keep going to find and destroy such tunnels. Meanwhile, Hamas capitalizes on every civilian death for PR uses, but does not allow photos of their own fighters who are killed. The mainstream media is complicit in this arrangement, and rarely shows photos of the Israeli dead. I have to think a significant number of Palestinians are regretting they voted Hamas into power in their government, but theyre afraid to speak up because then theyll be on the Hamas hit list. A sad, painful, destructive situation, with many lives lost or forever changed. Praying for peace, because its gonna take a God-sized act to bring it.
