I hate to add on to a flood of posts on this same topic, but this hits too close to home for me not to. Robin Williams made his living making people smile and laugh, and he was damn good at it. Who knew that such an icon of happiness could be feeling the exact opposite? This man had what many would consider the perfect life - lots of money, a loving family, an incredible job, and the adoration of millions. Yet despite all of those things, he was still in immense emotional pain. Mental illnesses of all shapes and sizes are not to be taken lightly, and I really hope that this tragic news can help people understand that. There is no cheering up, or looking on the bright side when you have depression. If you are feeling not like yourself, be it moodiness or sadness or lack of motivation or (god forbid) a desire to self-harm, please reach out and ask for help. There are people who love you and would do anything to help you out. If you dont think anyone will listen or care, there are countless resources available(National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255). Inversely, if someone reaches out to you, please do everything in your power to help them. You could be saving a life just by listening or even smiling. Its a massive shame that this titan of film and comedy has left us. His lifes work was making people smile. If a new level of awareness and understanding of Mental Illnesses comes from his death, he will be posthumously continuing his landmark work. Rest In Peace Robin Williams. You will be universally missed.
