I hate what people are saying about the players accepting the bans. Imagine your Paul Gallen and the evidence presented to you is incredibly weak. Option 1: You challenge the show-cause notice. Straight away the NRL suspends you, pending the investigation. It would take at least 3 months until any Court proceedings or Tribunal Hearing occurs. In that time alone his solicitor would have clocked up 180-200 hours of work, Steven Glass charges $750+ per hour. So $150,000? Alright hypothetically; he wins his first claim and also all the subsequent appeals made by ASADA. Good Result? Well it took 2 years, took a mental toll, he couldnt play footy or earn a NRL salary, and it cost him $1million in legal fees. Finally, do you want to hear the sweetener? ASADA are not required to pay Gallens legal costs. Or he could admit he was tricked by people he trusted (Elkin and Dank) into getting injected with possible illegal substances. If this goes further I think their admission of guilty would be inadmissible as evidence in court.
