I have a degree in music. Unfortunately, the business world doesnt really consider this much of an.....achievement. Music is a Universal language just like Science, Math or Physics but the one thing Music can do that these other languages cannot do is change a persons thought patterns, mood and awareness almost instantaneously.....and even activate a paradigm shift in a persons belief system. There is real power in Music that has yet to be harnessed. Think about the conductor of a Symphony Orchestra standing before 120 musicians with nothing but a score and a baton. With one wave of his hands and the facial expressions youll never see, he is changing a persons life for that moment and making it better. Or how about a Music Therapist who walks into St. Jude Hospital with just his voice and an acoustic guitar and bring smiles to the faces of children who may never see the light of another day. Oh, and how about the blues singer who just sang that song that you can personally relate to at THAT moment in time. Think about the Beatles. Just because you can play a few licks on a guitar and sing a couple songs doesnt necessarily make you a musician. its good to know and understand the mechanics and the math behind the music to effectively translate your ideas to other musicians.....but that doesnt make you a musician either. Real Musicians are searchers. We are searching for that thing we just cant describe with words. Only music can uncover it. The next time you meet a musician, thank them for making your life a little more tolarable. If we didnt have music, life would be pretty darn boring and in my opinion......pointless.
