I have a direct question for John P. Millerleile Sr..... You recently posted that the F-111 got a bad rap via poor MX practices, poor Tech Orders, MX people not using Tech Data. Im curious how you can base the F-111 safety record on these assumptions. To piggy back Georgia Garmin responses....One of the knocks was the WCTB failures.. this was not due to any factory oversight but investigation revealed the issue was with a sub-contractor who failed to follow contractual GDFW specifications concerning rivets in the WCTB box. Bleed air ducts were another source of grounding and a few other hiccups from a developing platform. Lancer losses were probably via using ancient bombs that self fragged a few of the 1st losses. Further curious questions would be: If our MX was so bad then why wasnt it identified via impartial and independent factory / USAF safety investigations. I can partially agree that the early TOs were a bit weak, but smart MX people utilized the suggestion program to rectify individual procedures. I worked almost 21 years only on the F-111 and I NEVER LOST AN AIRCAFT ON MY WATCH, via MX stupidity or lack of TO adherence.
