I have a dream that one day the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would learn to: (1) pay its employees their appropriate entitlements at the right time; (2) create efficient mechanisms for monitoring how its employees work for the money they are paid; (3) dismiss and even prosecute employees that take home wages without giving the required services; (4) release adequate for the running of its establishments and monitor properly how the funds are spent; (5) stop giving the bad example of not honouring agreements it entered into with trade unions; (6) have a clear national vision about development and ensure that federal expenditure is properly directed to service that vision; (7) expect and insist on measurable outcomes from its establishments, in line the vision. It is a dream which must not remain a dream. I sit in my office, greatly saddened by the fact that federal and state universities in Nigeria are not in session. I wish the authorities at the Federal level could share in my simple dream!
