I have a massive headache now. I just spent literally almost 3 hours teaching my son how to add and subtract simple math using the Common Core method. I am not looking to argue or debate if you are all for Common Core then good for you. But from what I can understand, its the most ridiculous thing ever. Its absolutely the DUMBEST thing. Observe 52+7= 50 2 4 3 50+6+3= 56+3=59 therefore 52+7= 59. Are you joking? You basically at the end have to add 56+3. How much harder is it to add 52 +7 the original problem than 56+3? Thats addition... Theres a whole different formula to subtract. I had to teach this method to myself before I could help him with his homework. Jonah who was excelling in math last year is struggling now because of this. matter of fact, all four 2nd grade classes at his public school are failing math this year. I spent three hours going over it before he even got close to understanding this junk. I know theres no way a teacher with 20+ students could get this through to them successfully. Im sure like 5 percent of parents are willing to go through what I just went through in order to make sure their kids arent behind! With all that said... You can see how I feel about Common Core math. I just needed to vent!
