I have a person angel.I have been having head aches etc. She makes me know that I am some what normal. Valerie Sue Allred Anderson, What a big wreck you had! You are right, you are a miracle in the flesh. I know I am, as well. A walking, talking miracle. The longer you go, the more you will read online that our injuries are usually fatal. I had so many docs tell me they did not know how to deal with me because people with my injury go to the morgue, not to the ER. We are SO blessed! Horses can be so dangerous. My injury came when I was 52, after a life lived happily breaking colts and doing all kinds of horse-related disciplines since I was 16. I was blessed to have had that long to enjoy horses and it was SOOOO hard to give them up. I finally found, after 3 years of self-advocacy, a neurosurgeon 3000 mi away, in NH, who knew everything about the skull base area. He was the one who found that none of my 4 fracture sites of C1 had healed whatsoever. I eventually went around EIGHT years with my neck severely broken. (I also ruptured all the ligaments in my neck so when I awoke on the ground after the wreck, alone, I found I could not lift my head or turn it whatsoever because nothing was holding my head on but muscle tissue) So, keep learning, keep on top of your symptoms (I gave lists of my symptoms to any doctor I was sent to and told them to keep it in my file, even if they didnt read it. I felt t his placed the doctor in a position where he better read it because I could prove that he was aware of my desperate situation! The other thing you wrote that touched my heart was about gaining weight and you said you lost control of me. You hit the nail on the head wonderfully in that statement. We do lose control of our emotions (LISTEN folks, you hit the top of your head hard enough to BREAK BONES!! So, you surely had some brain injury that perhaps is causing you depression or confusion or some cognitive failure or problems. After 10 yrs, I still have proven problems with thinking.) I gained 40 pounds over the years because I could not exercise (repeated exercises still flares up my central pain syndrome and put me in bed in miserable pain for days after I do something like that. Very few people in my life get that.). The ONLY thing that helped me to get the weight off is something I learned just this year. I will post that story in the next post I make on this thread. Sorry if this is too long!@
