I have a personal/spiritual dilemma that demands resolution. For some time now I have taken a compromised position as to the writings of Ellen G. White. I didnt recognize the content as inspired but because of their importance in encouraging the continuation of the awaking of the 1800s I regarded them as necessary for the continuation of the peoples passion for God after the Great Disappointment. In that sense inspired. The compromise allowed me to continue to support the effort the SDA church, financially and evangelistically. On April 27, 2013, my churchs prayer ministry conducted a program in which they implied that God doesnt hear the prayer of some of our members, despite their earnestness. The basis for this was a vision written in Early Writings pp. 54-56. (See my note titled Whos answering prayers?) That program was so objectionable to me, and anti-gospel, that I began to question my supportive efforts. Today a young lady thanked me for clarifying something for her in sabbath school, then she told me that someone told her it was a SIN to go to bed after 8 pm, the point of reference, you guessed it E.G. White. A SIN! To me its immaterial whether she did write that or not, the problem is that there are those in the church that would defend any statement if attributed to E.G. White. This mindless adherence allows too many to be lead into bondage. Extra biblical statements considered the word of God just because she saw. So my dilemma. Can I teach the gospel under the banner of SDA or fund the efforts of the church globally with the confidence that sometime down the road some individual who comes to Christ as a result of the effort will not be lead down the dark path of E. G. White-ism? I not certain thats possible.
