I have a question for my black friends. I recently read an article that—while not justifying the use of switches and so forth to beat children—attempted to explain why black parents may be harder physically on their children than white parents. The article posed the idea that because black children growing up in a predominantly white society that doesnt forgive their trespasses the same way it forgives the trespasses of its own means that the parents have to be hyper-vigilant around teaching their children respect for authority. For a white child to disrespect authority might get that child a stern talking to from authority figures. For a black child to do so may result in that childs death. Any thoughts?
