I have a short story to share. A guy comes to Lagos for the first time in his life, hes trying to find his way to an office located at 209 Idowu Martins Street. On the bus to Lagos, he met two people for directions, and here are the two answers he got; (1) Just get to Victoria Island, locate Adeola Odeku Street, Idowu Martins is off Adeola Odeku. (2) When you stop at Jibowu, I will point you to where youll pick a BRT bus going to CMS, when you get to CMS, pick a bus going to Adeola Odeku, stop at Park n Shop, then walk up and take the first turn on your right, thats Idowu Martins. You can then look for 209. And I have a question, bearing in mind that this guy is in Lagos for the first time in his life, which of these replies is actually useful? You see, the first answer is for someone who has been in Lagos for long, and who knows his way around Lagos. It is the same thing as telling a believer who knows the word of God, to allow the Holy Spirit to lead them on an issue they need directions on. This is because, the Holy Spirit leads you fundamentally and mostly with the word of God. Omisakin, your counsel is right, but its for believers who can recognise the voice of the Spirit through their knowledge of Gods word, not for new converts who dont know the scriptures yet, you understand what I mean right? When one has too little or no knowledge of the word, like a new convert, the leading of the Holy Spirit on issues will be problematic. The second answer is most suitable for a new comer to Lagos. It is just like what you will tell a new convert. You have to spell it out to them. New converts are guided primarily and mostly by the word of God, fed to them by their spiritual parents or elders, as they gradually learn to hear and recognise the voice of the Spirit of God. Telling a new convert, who is without knowledge of Gods word, to go and be led by the spirit, is very dangerous. People have done stupid and unbelievable things in the name of being led by the spirit because they lacked the foundation of the word.
