I have a theory that theses sink holes could be carbon dioxide pockets trapped under the earth surface, it is naturally occuring and can be found. there is also a possibility it could be nitrogen. as with the number of animals and sea creatures being found dead. Earthquakes even small or large can realease the pockets and at the same time create an explosive type sound.. nitrous oxide (NOx) occurs naturally in the atmosphere as a waste product of micro-organisms. With the increasing use of fertilizers, the micro-organisms have increased their growth and have produced more NOx gases along with the NOx gases put out by burning fossil fuels. John C Brookes.
