I have always felt very appreciative and thankful for our Veterans. Often, I have asked others to support them and to “remember” their sacrifices. Yet, there have been times I have felt somewhat guilty for this request, because I am a veteran myself, and have spent over half my life in the US Army. I simply never wanted anyone to think I was asking them to thank “me” because that has never been the message nor my intent. However, I have lived “daily” with these men and women in uniform (both young and old), and have become very close to many of them. I have witnessed “first hand” the commitment to duty and honor to our country that is within each and every one of them; and, I have been fortunate enough to have met many of their family members (moms, dads, sisters, brother, and children). I will carry their friendship, memories, and the special moments I’ve spent with them inside my heart and my mind for the rest of my life. There’s a special connection we “veterans” all have with one another…….one that most others would never understand. And….I am not only proud to have lived and fought beside them, but am truly honored to have known every single one of them. I have seen them “live”………and I have watched them “die”. Yet, every single one who has fallen, gave their lives for something they truly believed in……..”Freedom”. When I see a veteran today who is homeless, hungry, crippled, or with PTSD or other psychological disorders caused by war, it saddens me to no end. I begin to question “who” and “what” have we become? Then, when our government simply turns away and forgets about them…………………….well, you get the picture. How quickly we forget! If we allow our country, and our government to continue down the road to destruction that we are on now, then what does that say to those who gave their lives for this country? Did they all die in vain? What a “shame” that would be for every American family who has lost a father, mother, brother or sister, son or daughter who gave their lives so that “every American” could live in a “Free” country, while never having to be afraid, because our military servicemen and women are “protecting” them every single minute, of every single day!! I have witnessed, first hand and on more than one occasion, the enemy attempting to destroy our freedom and threatening to harm the citizens (men, women, and children) of this country…….and, our military servicemen have stood up and said, “Not on my watch”! Believe me, “War is Hell”!! No man or woman on earth should ever have to experience it! Yet, even if you live through it, for most veterans, it remains in their hearts and minds for the rest of their lives and there’s no escape. I know this to be true! I truly hope everyone will take just a moment out of your busy day on Veterans Day and remember the sacrifices that our veterans have made, so that all Americans can live in a “free” country and raise your children the way “you” believe to be right. I, for one, am not only honored to be a veteran who has fought for this country, but I’m also honored to have been a part of the lives of so many of my military friends, brothers and sisters. I am forever thankful for those who gave their lives for this country and I will “never” forget the sacrifices they have made! When many people think of Veterans Day, they think of maybe a day off from work, or people grilling out, a parade through town, or simply seeing more flags waving at homes and buildings. The pictures I have posted here are a reflection of what I see, in my mind, when I think of Veterans Day…….and this video brought tears to my eyes! “Why” would we ever forget???
