“I have an iPhone 4 which is three-and-a-half years old and showing its age. The battery runs down if I breathe on it the wrong way and the receiver is nearly inaudible. I have to plug in headphones or put it on speakerphone every time I want to attempt a phone call. I am so ready for a new phone, but I feel imprisoned by technology. I locked in unlimited data with Verizon the last time I upgraded, which was right before the started charging for extra data beyond 2 GB per month. A huge part of me wants to throw up my hands and go back to a flip phone. I liked the physical keyboard and the action of the clamshell snapping open and closed better anyway. (It made me feel like I was using communicator on the original ‘Star Trek’ series.) If I do have to have a smartphone (which seems to be the way of the world now) I’ll stick with the iPhone. I’ll let the early adopters pay extra and work out the bugs on the new version first, though. As for the Apple Watch, I’m more likely to go in the opposite direction. I’d like to get a regular watch again just so I don’t have to look at my phone to check the time and somehow get sucked into the vortex. Same goes for the iPod Classic. I’m sad to see it go. I have one in a drawer somewhere and I’ve often thought if I uploaded my music and podcasts to it instead it would stop me from getting lost in the glow of the iPhone screen.” — Rob Burgess
