I have been arguing TLGB issues online for almost a quarter - TopicsExpress

I have been arguing TLGB issues online for almost a quarter century now. There arent any arguments from the other side I havent heard. There arent any arguments that the other side has floated that havent been debunked and exposed. Likewise, there isnt much left to say on this side of the issue that hasnt already been said over and over and over again. But there is one point that is worth making. The opponents of marriage equality and all other TLGB rights are going to lose -- it is inevitable. And the reason for it is simple. For the anti-gay forces, this a theological issue, a hypothetical issue, theoretical issue, an ideological issue, a philosophical issue...and at the end of the day, they can walk away, unchanged. They can get tired, burned out, exhausted, give up, and they can go home. They can resign themselves to the new normal. But for TLGB people, this is a fight for our lives and our families and our rights and our sense of self. We cannot quit. We cannot walk away. We cannot give up. We cannot resign. We are in it because it comes from the inner source of who we are as individuals and as a community. We cannot give up anymore than we can voluntarily stop breathing. We cannot stop because to stop is to allow the injustices to continue. We have to win to end the injustices. And when we win, our lives will be changed. Thats the difference. We have something at stake. Our lives. They do not. What they have is a position, an idea, a belief -- but there is no risk to them, no harm, no deficit or detriment that they will suffer. Over here, there is risk and harm and deficit and detriment that must be ended. Theres also the little fact that they have no evidence at all to justify the denial of civil rights. We have all the evidence to demonstrate that such a denial causes physical, emotional, financial, and social harm. And thats ultimately all that counts in the courts of the land. As the public opinion polls continue to shift in our favor, the result is that the moderates on their side are abandoning the field, leaving only the extremists, the crazies, the loonies, the Phelpses -- the ones who further marginalize the issue in the minds of the public. The more the crazies talk, the more they look like the last desperate hiccups of history.
