I have been asked to retell a Miles story. Miles is not by any - TopicsExpress

I have been asked to retell a Miles story. Miles is not by any stretch naturally gifted at ball skills. He is not in danger of being recruited by anything that requires catching or consistent throwing, He is fine with Team Sports, providing everyone does what he tells them, otherwise he would prefer sports with friends, instead of teams. Fair enough... but we are working on it... Just to give him broader options. A couple of weeks ago we were at the aquatic centre, throwing around the nerf gridiron ball, in the pool. From about 20 feet away I hear a couple of older boys who had been watching Miles and getting ready to tease him (you could see them needing a running start on it) declared You throw like a girl! Without missing a beat, in a friendly tone used for explaining the differences between certain types of dragons or pokemom, Miles replied No. I throw like someone that cant throw very well yet. I know lots of girls that can throw better than this. And with no shame whatsoever continued throwing and catching the ball. The boys muttered to each other a bit, but decided not to pursue the matter and shortly went off to somewhere else. Meamwhile I am wearing the worlds hugest grin for the way Miles replied with complete candour, bravery and a defence of well...girls... but it is a bit more complex than that. Best of all I loved the yet. It was not an i suck at this comment...it was an I am working on getting better, and when I have done enough work, it will be there. Every now and then you get to see the attitudes that live inside your kids and it lets you see who they will grow up into. I think he is going to be okay.
