I have been asked what a tangible plan is for returning the MNA to its people .... As the leader of the MNA I will work to strengthen the communities again ... empowering them to participate and be a part of the decision making of the nation. The Metis communities are looking to be consulted and the MNA has been receiving resources to participate in consultation - those dollars should go to the communities to build capacities so that they can be a part of the decision making on issues that effect them. We need to build relationships with our communities that are not easily broken ... We once heard about having provincial meetings that had the various community leaders coming to be a part of the discussion of issues that the MNA was dealing with. We need to go back to that ... we need to use the consultation dollars that we receive empowering our members. In addition, there are many examples of both e-newsletters and communications tools that will send information out to the community about what is going on in our organization. There is means for people to have input into issues - governments all over are incorporating these to communicate and stay engaged - so can we. Strengthening our Metis people will only serve to strengthen us. Maybe in time - if it is the will of the people they will review the existing structure and enhance the organization to reflect their present day needs. A Nation that is not dictated by the Societies Act.
