I have been back from a three day journey to Garhwal, Uttarakhand - TopicsExpress

I have been back from a three day journey to Garhwal, Uttarakhand along with my lovely and trusted friends Suresh Nautiyal, Vinod Nautiyal and Vimal Uniyal. The basic purpose of this journey was to participate in a seminar at Agustyamuni, Rudraprayag on the issue of the huge ecological catastrophe in Kedar Valley just ten months ago and the hardships being confronted by the victims of this natural disaster. The topic of the seminar was Massive Uttarakhand Disaster and Relief thereof. This was the second seminar in sequence, the first already organized in Delhi at Gandhi Peace Foundation in the month of April having been addressed by many eminent journalists, environmentalists and earth scientists. The main objective for organizing these seminars at the ground zero is to enable people and the local victims to energize themselves to fight for their rights and ensure that they get the adequate compensation in monetary terms from the government which is actually due to them constitutionally and unfortunately they are not being obliged by the so called corrupt, negligent and the inefficient government officials . The seminar was a great success as large numbers of the disaster victims from Ukhimath and the nearby areas turned up and gave their respective descriptions about the hardships being confronted by them while seeking compensation. Number of petitions were received by us from them so that they can become the part and parcel of the Public Interest Litigation filed by our trusted friend and the editor of Chunyaal Joy Prakash Bisht and others in the Honorable Supreme Court of India, questioning the credibility of the government and-its various departments while distributing monetary and other forms of compensation to the victims of the devastating floods in the Kedar Valley which has actually not reached to them till date due to the extreme corruption and negligence of the complacent officials of the UK government.. The seminar was a great success as people from all hue and cry participated in this and highlighted their plight in writing as well as verbally. Amongst those who prominently spoke on this occasion were Sunil Negi, President, Uttarakhand Journalists Forum, Suresh Nautiyal, Board Member of Think Democracy International, and senior journalist, Vinod Nautiyal, Chandan Singh Gusain, Joy Prakash Bisht, Editor, Chunyaal, Garhwali News Portal and activists of various NGOs from garhwal Uttrakhand. The next seminar has been fixed for June , probably on 16th or 17th at Ukhimath.
