I have been challenged by my friend Annette to list 10 books that have stuck with me and tag a few people to do the same. Rules: Dont take more than a few minutes and dont think too hard. They dont have to be great works of literary genius, just books that had an impact on you and your life. Heres my (very abbreviated!) list of the first ones that popped into my head: 1. Maurice (E.M. Forster) 2. The Outlaw of Torn (Edgar Rice Burroughs) 3. Becoming a Man (Paul Monette) 4. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (Jonathan Safran Foer) 5. In Darkness (Nick Lake) 6. Catcher in the Rye (J.D. Salinger) 7. The Things They Carried (Tim OBrien) 8. As I Lay Dying (William Faulkner) 9. Rule of the Bone (Russell Banks) 10. The Stranger (Albert Camus) And because I just noticed that my list is exclusively male: 1. The Bluest Eye (Toni Morrison) 2. A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine LEngle) 3. Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) 4. Persepolis (Marjane Satrapi) 5. Mrs. Dalloway (Virginia Woolf) 6. Woman Warrior (Maxine Hong Kingston) 7. Kindred (Octavia Butler) 8. Like Water For Chocolate (Laura Esquivel) 9. Orlando (Virginia Woolf) 10. The Fifth Child (Doris Lessing) I will tag some of my November Project Milwaukee friends: Daniel Birk Graham, Ben Schwabe, Tonieh Welland, Noodlum Nellek, Michael Flanagan, Marinna Marotta, Matt Antonczyk, and Hans Goldenberg.
