I have been critical of our national obsession with hero worship, - TopicsExpress

I have been critical of our national obsession with hero worship, but have to attest in this case. I found myself with tickets to SNL back in the mid 70s. Another couple and we flew into the city to catch the show, it was quite the rage back them. A little known band outside NYC were the guests that night, Talking Heads. It was cool to be able to view the off stage activity. Akroyd was tense and focused, Belushi was oblivious, Gilda Radner actually made eye contact and smiled, for the most part the cast was busy scurrying around but Murray spent almost every off camera moment among the crowd, laughing and joking. He was having more fun than anyone in the theater. Upon leaving, we were interrupted by some security people who asked us to step aside as Belushi made his way with an entourage including some of the most beautiful women Ive ever seen, into a couple of limos. Almost 40 years ago, it was a different time. Later that evening, my friend, our wives and I were hanging around in some bar. He was intent on getting this girl he met up to his room. He called the bar manager over and told him that our wives were hookers and they were bothering us. Watching as they were escorted out in full protest screaming our names looked like one of the shows skits. But like I said these were different times, it is good to see that Bill remains.
