I have been informed that I should only test things I know how to properly operate, else my reviews are meaningless. Okay. By this logic: * You shouldnt comment on a book unless you have a literature degree * You cant critique a film without a film degree * You cant tell me what you think of a car unless youre a NASCAR driver I think this is bullshit. We can all name things which critics love and the general public hates, so which is more useful to you: hearing what Roger Ebert thinks of a movie, or what your friend Bob, who shares your interests, thinks of it? Les Stroud can start a camp fire with a soda can and a piece of chocolate. Does that mean if he says a piece of fire-starting gear is easy for him to operate that it will be easy for you to operate as well? Or should we test ease of operation by handing it to the people who are likely to use it -- inexperienced enthusiasts -- and see how well it works for them? I know what my answer is: Reviews by professionals are most helpful to other professionals, and reviews by amateurs are most helpful to other amateurs. I really dont need to know what The Stig thinks of a car before I buy it. Im more interested in what Jeremy Clarkson thinks. But what I really want to know is, What does my neighbor, who owns a car just like, think? Agree? Disagree? Id love to hear your opinion on this.
